Mandolin Books and Coffee Company is a cozy cafe and used bookstore that was first established in 2003. Located in the business district of the historic Highlands community, Mandolin has long been a treasured gathering place for the neighbourhood. We offer delicious food and drinks, as well as a wide selection of high quality used books, both fiction and non-fiction.
People drop in to Mandolin for many reasons... Some are looking for a quiet place to study and others are seeking a relaxing conversation or engaging discussion with friends. Some stop along the way while on a walk for a refreshing drink. Some drive or bike longer distances for a favourite item on our menu. Some are looking to find their next great reading adventure or the perfect gift for someone special. Some head straight for the children's section at the back hoping to entertain young ones, and some are eager to relax amid the flowers on our patio. Some are simply exploring the neighbourhood and wander through our doors ready for whatever awaits. All receive a warm welcome.
Mandolin Books and Coffee Company is proud to be one of several unique, locally-owned businesses in the colourful commercial district along 112th Avenue in Edmonton‘s historic Highlands neighbourhood. We sell Community League memberships on behalf of both the Highlands and Bellevue Community Leagues and are pleased to support community events whenever possible.
We are independent and locally-owned. We feature locally-roasted Catfish Coffee. Our food is largely sourced from local suppliers. Each month Mandolin displays the original artwork of a differrent Edmonton artist in the store. You will also find a few treasures within our book selection that feature our neighbourhood and our own home grown writers.
The current owner of Mandolin is Lianne Traynor. She and her family have lived in Highlands since 1999 and are deeply committed to providing a place for community members to meet, work, relax, enjoy each other's company and build deeper connections. Lianne is an avid reader and likes her lattes extra sweet.
Thanks to Yvonne Rezek for the use of her artwork on this page and to Ben Garcia, Leanne Strilchuk and Marj Balser for photograhy used throughout.
