Our COVID-19 Response

COVID-19 Response

During this time we have seen many changes within our city and our small business.

We promise to uphold and follow the guidelines given from the Provincial & Federal governments and ensure that our store is safe and clean for our wonderful staff and customers. If you are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, or if you are feeling unwell, please stay home.

As of March 1, 2022, most of the Alberta COVID-19 restrictions have ended. Masks are no longer required in store but we do encourage you to continue wearing one. The Restrictino Exemption Program has also ended, meaning you do not have to present your QR code. While in store please be respectful of those who choose to wear a mask or not.

We are slowly transitioning back to our regular service, so while we do offer plates and bowls for dining in, take away cups and plastic cutlery will still be used for now. This page will remain for the time being until it is time to end updates.

We appreciate your patience and support and look forward to serving you!

We have made the decision to participate in the province's Restriction Exemption Program. When coming to our store please provide your QR Code proof of vaccination, a negative COVID test from the past 72 hours OR a medical exemption, as well as a piece of photo ID. Without those documents you cannot browse our books or sit at the tables. You may place an order for a drink and pay but may be asked to wait outside while we prepare your order.

Please note: Transactions may be a little slower than usual due to this process and we appreciate your patience and cooperation.

In light of the COVID-19 restrictions and mandates, Mandolin Books and Coffee Company has made the choice to remove indoor seating and follow the restrictions implemented for retail businesses. We will be consulting with AHS further on how we will proceed. We thank you for your constant support and patience during this time.

JULY 6, 2021 UPDATE:

With the reopening plan of Alberta, we are pleased to announce that we now have 5 of our 6 tables inside! We are slowly transitioning back to regular operations so please be patient while we continue to offer coffee in take out cups, though you have the option for your treats on a plate. We do ask and encourage customers to continue wearing face masks when entering our store. Staff will continue to wear masks for the time being and we will keep the plexiglass and sanitizer stations for your use. Thank you for sticking with us during this time!

JUNE 10, 2021 UPDATE:

Stage 2 of the summer reopening plan has begun and we are pleased to announce that our capacity limit has been bumped up to 8 people inside the store. If you see 5 people at the front of the store, please kindly wait outside until you are allowed to enter. We still do not have tables for inside dining, but our lovely patio is open for you to enjoy.

JUNE 1, 2021 UPDATE:

With the summer reopening plan, the government of Alberta has allowed businesses to reopen their patio dining areas as of today, June 1st. Our patio is open and ready to seat you, but please keep the tables in their designated spots and respect the distancing protocols still in effect.

MAY 10, 2021 UPDATE:

As of yesterday (Sun. May 9, 2021), the current restrictions were implemented. We will not have any outdoor seating for approx. 3 weeks. Please continue to follow the government restrictions and be safe!

Yesterday, the Alberta government had reverted back to stage 1 of the reopening plan. In accordance with this change, we have adjusted our capacity back to 4 people. Please check through the window and if you see 3 people in the store, kindly wait outside until you are allowed in.

Our patio remains open and we ask you not to remove your mask to drink your beverage while in the store.

Mar. 9, 2021 UPDATE:

As per the capacity limit adjustments made by the Government of Alberta, we have raised our capacity from 4 people to 6. Please check through the window and if you see 5 people in the store, kindly wait until you are allowed in.

Feb. 3, 2021 UPDATE:

On February 8th some of the provincial restrictions will ease, which allows us to reopen the patio for seating outside. Unfortunately, we still will NOT have indoor seating. This will remain in place until the 2 meters apart restrictions are eased. We apologize for the inconvenience but we would like to continue keeping you and our staff safe. Please bring a blanket if you'd like to sit outside and don't forget to grab a hot beverage to keep toasty!

This is what you can expect when you visit Mandolin:

  • No tables and chairs for in-seating dining
  • All of our food and beverages are served for take out only
  • A maximum of 4 people in the store (not including staff). Children will be counted with their accompanying adult
  • Masks are mandatory. We will ask you to put one on or leave if you will not comply. Do not remove your mask while in the store.
  • Please enter through the front of the store and exit through the back, ensuring to keep enough distance between yourself and other customers

What we are doing to keep you safe and comfortable:

  • Sanitize every surface frequently
  • Provide hand sanitizing stations
  • Plexiglass at the till
  • Comply with any directives given from the Provincial & Federal governments

We will continue to update this page as necessary
